Kili music award finals underway in Arusha

The Executive Secretary of the Tanzania Arts Council (BASATA), Shogholo Chali, will grace the Kilimanjaro Music Awards North East Competition finals to be held tomorrow in Arusha.

Kilimanjaro Beer Brand Manager, Oscar Shelukindo said yesterday that the competition would be elimination- based for both Best Upcoming Zonal Musician (Modern) and Best Zonal Group (Traditional) categories to be held today at Maua Garden at Hotel Seventy Seven.

Shelukindo also added that the elimination exercise would see five finalists picked from the two categories for tomorrow's finals to be held at Triple A Club.

Both the elimination rounds and finals will be supervised and judged by officials from Basata and unnamed regional cultural officers and that winners will each take home 250,000/-.

Shelukindo noted further that the final event would be coloured by various 'bongoflavour' artists including Arusha's Nako2Nako Group, 2 Berry and Mwasiti. Last year the event was won by Masela Camp (John Bahai) who emerged the Best Upcoming Zonal artist while the Tanzanite Group won the Best Zonal traditional group.

In another development, organizers of the Kilimanjaro Music Awards have announced Macy Simon and Mwanza Sanaa as winners of Best zonal upcoming artist and Best zonal traditional group for the Lake Zone, following last week's competition which was held in Mwanza.
