Mwanza Kili Awards kicks off !

The Finals of annual Kilimanjaro Music Award competition for lake zone will held at City Cabana in Mwanza on 31 st March 2007. Kilimanjaro premium lager brand manager, Oscar Shelukindo, whose brand is sponsored the event, said that the elimination round would be held the following day.

Both the elimination rounds and finals would be supervised and judged by the National Arts Council, Basata and Regional culture officers. He said the elimination format would involve Best Up-coming Zonal Musicians in both modern and traditional categories.

He said winners would be picked from five finalists in the two categories. He further said that Ilemela District Commissioner Kamote would grace the event. Winners in each category would take home Tsh 250,000/-. To add excitement, Shelukindo said top artistes including Fid Q, Afande Sele and MB Doggy would perform during the event.

Last year, over 150 groups took part in the elimination round. Hamza Balla and Mganda Ngoma Group became Best up-coming zonal Group (traditional) respectively.

This year, other zonal competitions, final would be held in Arusha (Northe East) on April 14 th and Mbeya (South) on April 21. At the end of the competitions, a panel of judges, led by BAsata, will adjudicate to select overall zonal winners in both categories from the four zones (Northeast, Northwest, Central and Southern Highlands).
